Welcome to Maroon Town
We connect, we inspire

Maroon Town
We are Maroon Town — a band, 9-piece,a movement, a sound. Born of the vibrant streets of Brixton and inspired by the defiant spirit of the Maroons of Jamaica, the rebellious unconquerable runway slaves , we carry a message of unity, resilience, and celebration.
For over 30 years and still going we have traversed the planet in search of the holy grail of positive vibrations—lighting up prisons in Kingston Jamaica, jamming in the Palace of the Sultan of Brunei, becoming the darlings of Catalunya (or as we say, Skatalunia), and skanking through the Stans of Central Asia. From the electric streets of Mumbai and Goa to the soul of Brazil and Venezuela, across Europe, Kosovo, Japan, Sri Lanka, and even soaring into the remote hinterlands of Tajikistan in the Aga Khan’s helicopter—our journey is a testament to the universal language of music and its boundless power to unite, uplift, and inspire.
Our music fuses ska, reggae, cumbia, hip-hop, and funk, breaking barriers and building bridges. We believe in the power of rhythm to unite people, the strength of lyrics to inspire change, and the energy of live performance to move hearts and feet alike.
In every note we play and every word we sing, we honour our roots while embracing the future. Our sound reflects the diversity of our backgrounds and the vibrancy of our global audience.
We stand for:
- Community: Music is a collective force. We bring people together to share joy, challenge injustice, and celebrate life.
- Equality: From the stage to the streets, we amplify voices that need to be heard and fight for a fairer world.
- Freedom: Like the Maroons who fought for liberation, we believe in the power of art to challenge oppression and spark revolutions.
Maroon Town isn’t just a band—it’s a movement. Join us as we create, connect, and transform through the unstoppable force of music. Together, we rise.
A long-standing relationship with the British Council saw Maroon Town perform in over 15 countries from Kosovo to Tajikistan and from Brazil to Brunei playing in theatres, festivals, schools, community centres, universities and even high security prisons. One such prison was in Jamaica where 27 inmates escaped the very next day!
